Technical Information
Tamen Q-188 is a 65% active, (3-Chloro-2-hydroxypropyl)trimethylammonium chloride solution in water.
Tamen Q-188 converts readily to the epoxide 2,3-epoxypropyl-trimethylammonium chloride for epoxide reactions with natural polymers such as cellulose, starch and gums, and synthetic polymers such as polyvinyl alcohol, imparting increased polarity, hygroscopicity and affinity for anionic substances and substrates.
Tamen Q-188 modified polymers, such as cationic starch, are used in a wide range of applications such as dry strength additives for paper, retention aids, flocculants, electroconductive resins, antistatic agents, fabric softeners, asphalt emulsifiers and emollients. For example, cationized cotton has a strong affinity for anionic dyes or dye blockers.
